Ready, set, fourth

Independence Day celebration planned

MANISTIQUE – It’s almost time for all the glitz and glamor of Manistique Independence Day celebrations. This year’s events will be spread over three days due to scheduling issues – taking place on July 1, 2, and 3.

Kicking off the activities will be the annual Manistique Kiddie Parade, which is set for July 1 at 6 p.m. In this activity, area children can dress up across a broad range of themes and vie for special prizes. Following judging, a short parade will commence from Manistique’s Triangle Park to the Manistique Middle and High School.

To participate in the fun, children may begin lining up at the starting point at 5:30 p.m. that day.

On July 2, the Manistique Independence Day Parade will make its way through Manistique’s east and west sides. Line-up for the parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. Prizes in various categories will be awarded to participating floats. This year’s theme is “rock and roll”.

Included in the parade will be marching bands – including the Manistique High School Marching Band, the Players de Noc Lawn Chair Drill Team, the Escanaba City Band, and Black Mirage.

Following the parade will be an arts and crafts fair in Triangle Park, along with live music by the Backroads 906 band from 3-6 p.m.

Fireworks will take place July 3 at dusk over the Manistique Harbor. According to organizers, the separation of the parade and the fireworks this year was due to a scheduling conflict with the company that provides the display.
