Officials provide update on city hall

Visitors limited, some employees still remote

MANISTIQUE – Officials at Manistique City Hall are reminding residents about special accommodations for services as the nation remains in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Manistique City Manager Sheila Aldrich, there is “presence” in Manistique City Hall Monday-Friday.

“For the protection of both employees and the public, we are encouraging payment of water bills and taxes by mail, by phone, or online at cityofmanistique.org,” explained Aldrich. “Water bills can also be paid at mBank, State Savings Bank, and Manistique Federal Credit Union. We appreciate them working with us on that.”

For information on various city services, to make an appointment or to gain access to city hall, Aldrich noted that there are phone numbers posted on the door of the building or residents may call 341-2290 for the numbers. Masks are required for entry to city hall.

“We are following the pandemic response plan that was provided to us by the LMAS District Health Department and passed by Manistique City Council in June,” Aldrich said. “The health department indicated that plan has not changed, and that we are operating exactly as we should be. The plan states that: ‘company restricts the number of employees present on premise to no more than is strictly necessary, and employees who are able to perform their essential duties remotely may be permitted to work from home in accordance with approved telework arrangements’.

Office employees have access to their work computers and are very able to perform their work remotely,” she continued. “Because of the close quarters at city hall and sharing city hall with police, fire, paramedics, and EMS, we do not have the room for everyone to be there at once and still keep all employees and the public safe. Employees, myself included, get many calls, daily, evenings, and weekends too, on our cell phones, and will accommodate whatever our residents and businesses need. We try and keep our voicemails cleared to accept more messages. Manistique is a very strong and tolerant community, and we appreciate the patience of the public as we navigate through this pandemic.”

Aldrich added that she encourages residents and businesses to call city hall with any issues or questions.
