MDS Community Action Agency Board seeks members from Schoolcraft County


ESCANABA – The Menominee-Delta Schoolcraft Community Action Agency Governing Board is looking for two new board members from Schoolcraft County. The mission of MDS Community Action Agency is to empower, advocate for, and assist people to improve and sustain their quality of life and independence through education, housing, nutrition, volunteerism, and in-home support.

The 18-member governing board is made up of residents from Menominee, Delta and Schoolcraft counties.

The board meets eight times a year, with all but one meeting taking place in Escanaba.

The agency’s by-laws require a third of the board is represented by low-income consumers served by the agency, a third by public officials or their representatives and a third by the private sector.

One current vacancy is for a Schoolcraft County resident who would represent consumers of MDSCAA services. This person can either be representing low-income consumers or be a recipient of services themselves. The second open board seat would represent the private business sector. The Community Action Agency will assist anyone interested in the open board seat.

The MDSCAA nonprofit agency provides multiple programs in the community, including early childhood/ Head Start program, three senior volunteer programs, senior meals including home delivered meals, weatherization, homeless services, and emergency assistance services including Walk for Warmth heating and utilities assistance.

Finding a new board member from Schoolcraft County will continue our important work supporting seniors, families, and individuals in need of Schoolcraft County,” said CAA Executive Director Julie Moberg.
