MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Emerald wrestling team wrapped-up the regular season, hosting the Division 4 Super Duals at the Richard Bonifas Gymnasium last Saturday. At the end of the day, the Patriots from Westwood captured the championship trophy, defeating the host Emeralds’ 42-30 in a head-to-head battle for the top spot. Both teams finished out the day 4-1.

While edged out for the top spot, the Emeralds put on a display, defeating Gwinn, Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Newberry before falling to Westwood. The feat was achieved with the help of outstanding performances by Louis Berry, Tanner Gonzalez, Landon Burton, and Dylan Stevenson – each finishing the day undefeated with 5-0 records.

Wrestling in the 215-pound weight class, Burton pinned Westwood’s Seth Tackman in just 97 seconds in his final match of the day.

Travis DuFour stood 4-1 for the Emeralds, while David Rahn finished the day 2-1.

With the duals out of the way, the wrestling Emeralds will make a run at the Mid-Peninsula Conference title Saturday in Iron Mountain.

On Feb. 10, they will be back in the Richard Bonifas Gymnasium competing in the Michigan High School Athletic Association team districts. Rudyard (Cedarville) will take on Newberry (Engadine) at 6 p.m. Manistique has the bye.
