During their final home match for the 2012 season, the Emeralds took on the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears in the “Dig fur a Cure” volleyball tournament. Both teams and spectators dressing in pink to raise funds for Shirley’s Angels, a local cancer support organization. The hallway outside the gymnasium was filled with groups and organizations providing information on breast cancer. Various home party vendors and crafters also participated in the event by donating a percentage of their sales. Over $4,000 was raised through the events. Shirley’s Angels mission statement states it was organized to aid those inflicted with breast cancer by promoting breast cancer research and outreach, including providing education and breast cancer support to those who desperately need it.
