Competing on the toughest course of the season, the Emerald cross country teams raced in the Tracy Strom Invitational meet held at the Al Quaai Recreation Area in Ishpeming, Sept. 6. An indication of the difficult terrain, no runners broke 20 minutes on the 5K (3.1- mile) course. Above, from left: Emerald athletes Ed Rethman, Ryan Ramey and Bryson Lawrence watch their footing as they begin the race, which included a steep slope down a washed out trail. Right: Tyler Pomeroy narrowly edges out Matt Moilanen of Gwinn at the finish line to take third with a time of 20:52.65. 27p2.jpg
