Health Fair set for Saturday at SMH

Event boasts free tests, kids’ ‘Teddy Bear Clinic’

MANISTIQUE – It’s almost time for the 2018 Schoolcraft County Health Fair. The event is slated to take place Saturday at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital.

The theme of this year’s health fair is “Uniting for Quality Health”. The event, an interactive, family-friendly event for people of all ages, will take place from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Visitors can tour information booths and artistic vendors, receive a flu shot, complete lab tests (Vitamin D, Thyroid TSH, and/or a Lipid Panel). There will also be free bone density, peripheral artery disease, pulmonary function, blood pressure, blood sugar, and grip strength tests, as well as skin cancer screens and video ear screens.

Families are encouraged to bring young children to the Teddy Bear Clinic, where they can have their stuffed animals “treated”. There will also be family-centered booths with activities and information.

The Schoolcraft County Health Fair Committee has also compiled a “Health Talk” schedule. Sessions are free and registration is not required.

The schedule includes:

9:30 a.m. – “Fall Reductions” with Allen Duyck, Rehabilitation Services manager

10:30 a.m. – “Cardiac Risk Factors” with Nicholas Hoeve, Rural Health Clinic DO, cardiologist

11:30 a.m. – “Town Hall – SMH Expansion” with Bob Crumb, SMH CEO

12:30 p.m. – “Impact: Concussion Baseline Testing” with Jessica Rochefort, NP-C

The Schoolcraft County Transit Authority is offering free rides to and from the Health Fair. Rides must be scheduled in advance by calling (906) 341-2111.

The RediCare clinic will remain open for regular business hours, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., the day of the Health Far.
