As the excitement of the new school year continues to grow over the next few weeks, students will be anxious to get into the schools, see their classrooms, and meet their teachers. To meet that need we have scheduled our school open houses for Aug. 30. The Middle/High School Open House will be held from 5 - 6 p.m. The Open House at Emerald Elementary will be held from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Teachers will be available in their classrooms to meet and greet students and their families.

Families are reminded that the transportation procedures implemented last year will be in place again this year. In summary, students riding the bus to and from the Middle/High School will be loading and unloading on Maple Street (M 94). There will be no parent pick up on Maple Street (M 94) before or after school. Parents and Schoolcraft County Transit will be expected to use the Middle/High School parking lot pulling through along the sidewalk entering on Main and exiting on Cedar.

At Emerald Elementary, bus loading and unloading will take place in the driveway in front of the of the office. Busses will enter from Cattaragus and exit on Oak. The driveway and parking lot will be closed to all car traffic from 7:45 - 8:20 a.m. daily. Parents who transport their children will drop them off at what was formerly known as “bus row” near the gym doors on Cattaragus. All students must be dropped off at the curb and cars will be expected to pull up as far as possible to keep traffic moving. There will be staff on the sidewalks welcoming the students to school and keeping the children safe.

Students are not to report to school more than 25 minutes before the start of the school day. That means students at the Middle/High School should not report to school before 7:50 a.m. for an 8:15 start time. Middle/High School students who report prior to the 8:05 a.m. warning bell have access to breakfast in the cafeteria and will be held in the first floor hallway until 8:05. Students at Emerald Elementary should not report to school before 8 a.m. for an 8:25 start time. Students who arrive at school prior to the 8:10 warning bell will report directly to the playground where there will be adult supervision. At 8:10 students will enter the building with the option of reporting to breakfast in the cafeteria or directly to their classrooms. All kindergarten students will be provided breakfast in their classroom with their classroom teacher. During times of inclement weather students will be held in the gym commons area until 8:10.

As always if you have any questions please call Mr. Shiner at (906) 341-4300 or Mrs. LaFoille at (906) 341-4303. Regular office hours in the Middle High School and Emerald Elementary offices will resume on Aug. 13. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m. Regular school hours (Monday through Friday) will resume in both offices on Aug. 27, when Middle/ High School students will have school pictures, schedule pick up and yearbook distribution.
