Yvette M. Martin

GAYLORD – Former Garden/ Fayette area resident, Yvette M. Martin, 95, passed away on June 26, 2018, at the Aspen Ridge Retirement Home in Gaylord, Mich.

Yvette married Orville H. Martin on June 26, 1947, at St. John the Baptist Church in Garden, Mich. They made their home and raised their family on a dairy farm on the Garden Peninsula. Orville preceded her in death on March 15, 2002. In 2010, Yvette moved to Gaylord to be closer to her family.

She was a homemaker who also worked as a cook at the Marygrove Retreat Center in Garden and was a tour guide at the Fayette State Park. She also provided catering services for many family and community events.

Yvette was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden and was a life-member of the Harvey Pierre V.F.W. Post No. 2778 Auxiliary in Appleton, Wis.

She especially enjoyed gardening and playing cards, and was an avid Detroit Tiger fan. She proudly earned her high school diploma from the Big Bay de Noc High School in 1973.

Yvette is survived by her children, Wayne (Patricia) Martin of Appleton, Anne (Gary) Olson of Gaylord, Jude (Linda) Martin of Stevens Point, Wis., Joseph (Gail) Martin of Elk River, Minn. and Paul (Mary) Martin of Kingsford, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; daughter-in-law, Sandy; and sister-in-law, Marion Cota.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark Martin; granddaughter, Lindsay; and her brothers, Earl and Theodore.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at noon, at the church, with Father Ben Paris officiating. Burial followed in the New Garden Cemetery.
