A night of art

Courtesy photos Courtesy photos The first Community Concert Chamber Concert of the 2018 series took place June 24 at the Presbyterian Church. Playing to a near sold-out audience were performers Stas Venglevski, formerly of Moldova, and Ms. Krasnobayeva of Belarus. Venglevski played the bayan, a Russian-style accordion and Krasnobayeva played the cimbalom, an instrument similar to a hammer dulcimer. Venglevski returned to perform at the Community Concert Chamber Music series after having performed nine years ago. The concert included classical music, Russian folk songs, and some modern favorites. In addition to the musical aspect of the concert series, each concert will feature the works of local artists to be enjoyed at intermission. At this event, the artwork of Manistique High School juniors Lenna Smith, Emily May, and Brianna Puckett were presented. The next concert, The Silver and Gold Concert, will be July 15. This year is the 50th anniversary of the concert series in Manistique and the 25th anniversary of Paul Lundin directing the concerts.
