Karen L. Adkins

Karen L. Adkins Karen L. Adkins MANISTIQUE – Karen L. Adkins, 79, of Manistique, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at her home in Manistique surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Laona, Wis., the daughter of Lyle and Beatrice (Johnson) Patz and attended Manistique area schools.

On Oct. 8, 1955, the former, Karen L. Patz married Charles A. Adkins in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in Manistique. Charles preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2013.

Karen held part-time jobs at Manistique area schools hot lunch, Top O’ Lake Sport Shop, Manistique Senior Center, Wyman Nursery and as a personal caregiver.

She was also an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed crocheting, crafting, traveling, baking, and visiting the casino. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends over a cup of coffee.

Karen will be remembered fondly as a wonderful wife, mother, sister and as “Sweetie” to her grandchildren.

Her ability to welcome family and friends into her heart made her home a favorite place to gather. Her priority throughout her life was providing a loving home for her husband and five children.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra (David) Barkley of Kingston, Tenn., Kim (Doug) Jones of Manistique, Linda (David)

Chandanais of Manistique and Cheryl (Daniel) Bennett of Kingsford, Mich. and honorary daughter and namesake, Karen McDougle of Manistique; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters, Fern (Charlie) Parker of Florida, Lila (Ron) Schultz of Florida and Diane (Joe) LaLonde of Manistique; and special friend, Carl Less of Manistique.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles M. Adkins; granddaughter, Tamara; great-great grandson Adrian; her brother, Larry Patz; and her sister, Donna Woodruff.

A celebration of Karen’s life will be held on Sunday, July 29, from 1- 4 p.m. at the Manistique Senior Center in Manistique.
