Summer Chamber Music Series to return June 24

MANISTIQUE – The Community Concert Committee’s summer chamber music series, celebrating its 50th summer, has announced its concert dates for 2018. All concerts are Sundays at 7:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Manistique.

The series begins June 24 with the return of one the series’ favorite performers, Stas Venglevski, with his accordion to wow the audience. This year Venglevski is joined by hammer dulcimer virtuoso Tatyana Krasnobayeva. For the audience, this will be a treat to be able to hear this rare and beautiful instrument.

The second concert July 15, “Silver and Gold”, celebrates the official 50th anniversary of the series. This concert is also a celebration of Paul Lundin’s 25th summer directing the series.

The program of piano trios will feature Rob Conway, piano, Andrea Yun, cello and Lundin, violin. In addition to selections featuring opus numbers 25 and 50, also being performed is the Brahms Trio in B Major, one of the first pieces to be performed on the series in 1968.

The summer concert series concludes Aug. 5 with the “True North Quartet.” This string quartet from the Ann Arbor area is in its ninth consecutive year of delighting Manistique audiences with their innovative programming.

This year’s program, “Razzle- Dazzle,” includes dazzling guest mezzo-soprano and oboist Kaycee Ware Thomas. She will perform Ottorino Respighi’s “The Sunset” for voice and string quartet and play the Oboe Quartet in F by Mozart. Beethoven’s Quartet in C Major dedicated to Count Razumovsky finishes the summer with style.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door before the performance. Patrons under 18 will be admitted free.
