MANISTIQUE – Trying to make up ground in a shortened season, the Manistique golf teams traveled to Newberry and Munising this week.

Being the only team to field a card, the girls shot a 236 at the Newberry Invitational Monday. Payton Hoholik led the squad with a low card 53. In addition to Hoholik, Jordyn Reque shot a 57, Abbi Popour 63, Sydnee MacPhail 63, and Emily Mattson 66.

St. Ignace and Newberry did not field enough players to turn in a score.

Scores of 44 by Curtis Byrns and 46 by Marc McKinney weren’t enough as the boys came in third (187) behind Newberry (179) and St. Ignace (178).

Tuesday the girls lost to Munising 236 to 257. Reque turned in the low card (58) for Manistique. Other scores were Hoholik 59, McPhail 69, Mattson 71, and Popour 72.

The boys were four strokes off the pace, losing to the Mustangs 202-206. Byrns turned in the low card finishing with a 46. McKinney 50, Oas 51, and Brett Boyd 59 rounded out the scorers.

Manistique travels to Munising Friday and will participate in the MPCs in Negaunee May 24.
