Manistique High School senior Regina Moloney and 2017 MHS graduate Megan Annelin arrived back in town from an exciting weekend of hockey as defending girls’ hockey state champions.

The pair skates for the Marquette mBank 19U girls’ team, which captured the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association 19U Tier 3 State Championship over the weekend in Alpena.

They both previously skated on the Manistique Elks 19U team, which won last year’s 19U State Championship. Moloney and Annelin joined the Marquette team after the Manistique girls’ program folded in November 2017. mBank began their quest for a state title with a 6-0 shutout against Grand Traverse March 2.

Next up in pool play Saturday, they defeated Copper Country 4-2.

The mBank girls earned first place in their division, skating to a 1-1 tie against Huron County.

Narrowed down to four teams Sunday morning for the semifinal games, Marquette advanced to the championship game by defeating Midland 3-1.

Marquette faced off against Alpena and finished as they started with a 2-0 shut-out over Alpena to become the 2017-18 U-19 Tier 3 state champions.
