Homecoming celebrated with a Black Bears victory

Joe LeBlanc photo COOKS – Coming off an 88-39 loss to Munising, the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears celebrated homecoming with a 71-46 win over Hannahville Tuesday night.

A 17-point first quarter lead was all the Bears needed to hold off the Soaring Eagles. The homecoming victory got started early when Kellen

Thill hit the first bucket of the night for Big Bay. A three-point basket by John LeFevre put the Bears up 8-2 midway through the period.

LaLonde’s seventh point of the quarter pushed the lead to 14 points for the Bears, who led 19-2 when the quarter came to an end.

With just two in the books in the first quarter, the young Soaring Eagles team put up 14 points in the second, but still trailed 35-16 at the half.

Joe LeBlanc photo With the homecoming festivities finished, LaLonde and the Bears went back to work, scoring 26 third quarter points.

LaLonde scored 12 of his game high 21 points in the period, Thill added eight for Big Bay, who held a 61-31 lead after three quarters of play.

In addition to LaLonde, Thill finished the game with 12 points.

Dominic Metzger led Hannahville in scoring with 12 points; Joe Larson added 10.

Big Bay takes on North Central Friday and will travel to Mid-Pen next Tuesday.

Big Bay: 19, 16, 26, 10 – 71.

Hannahville: 2, 14, 15, 15 – 46.
