Emeralds rally past Bears for the win

Joe LeBlanc photo MANISTIQUE – Following an Emerald loss by the varsity girls, it was a battle between Manistique’s Schyler Anderson and Big Bay’s Kellen Thill. The boys’ varsity teams took on each other in Manistique Saturday.

Coming off their best start of the season and with Big Bay’s defense struggling, Manistique jumped out to a 20-7 lead when the first quarter came to an end. The teams traded shots in the second, with the Emeralds pushing their lead to 34-20 at the half before things heated up in the third.

With 10 points in the books, Anderson added 11 more points in the third. Not to be outdone, Thill netted 13 points, including three, three-point baskets for Big Bay, who trailed 54-38 going into the final eight minutes of play.

The Bears’ defense has given up just over 80 points in their last four contests.

Monday, Big Bay dropped an 84-33 decision to Carney. Manistique lost to Munising by the score of 70-30.

Big Bay will host games against Stephenson tonight (Thursday) after press time and Mid Pen Monday. Manistique travels to Escanaba Friday.
