Currently, every new chemotherapy patient receives a bag of comforting essentials during their first treatment of chemotherapy.

“This is an extremely difficult time for patients and this simple act of kindness has brought smiles and hope to many of our patients,” said Nikki Burton, member of the Community Staff Relations Team.

The committee’s goal is to collect enough items to provide chemotherapy bags for all new chemotherapy patients in 2018. There is a table set up in the atrium for the month of October and there will be a booth at the Health Fair Oct. 14 for item drop-off.

Community members are asked to donate the following items:

-Kleenex, travel size

-Wet wipes, travel size

-Lip balm

-Mouth rinse for dry mouth

-Herbal teas

-Pens

-Crossword puzzles, word search or Sudoku books

-Writing journals

-Magazines

-Thank you note cards or stationary with envelopes

-Cozy throw blankets

-Hats, buffs or scarves

-Hard candy or mints

Yoga classes have resumed at SMH Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the SMH atrium. All yoga donations collected in the month of October will benefit the chemotherapy comfort bag project.
