MSP seeks information on impersonator

MANISTIQUE – The Michigan State Police is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man believed to be impersonating a police officer.

There have been multiple reports of a man with no law enforcement affiliation conducting traffic stops in Schoolcraft County. Troopers and a detective assigned to the Manistique area are investigating the incidences.

The man is described as being approximately 30 years old with short, dark hair and wearing a brown uniform with a gold badge. His clothing does not have patches or any identifying tags, though he claims to be a recently hired deputy working for the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department.

In the reported cases, he is driving a dark car, possibly a Dodge Charger, which may have a black brush guard on the front, spotlight and be equipped with a removable red and blue flashing light bar on the interior of the windshield.

Anyone with information about the identity of this man is asked to call the St. Ignace Post at (906) 643-7582. Anyone who may have had contact with him or has been stopped by him should call and report the encounter.
