A Cedar Slam success


Several area basketball teams converged onto Cedar Street Saturday morning to compete in the Cedar Street Slam 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament organized by the Manistique Merchants Association. Pioneer Tribune photos MANISTIQUE - Several area basketball teams converged onto Cedar Street Saturday morning to compete in the 2nd Annual Cedar Street Slam organized by the Manistique Merchants Association.

With team names like Lightening Bolts, Hoop There It Is and Goldi Locks and the Three Bears, one was never sure who they were going to meet on the court.

Nine brackets were challenged with players 10 and under participating all the way to adults 35 and older.

After double elimination, first and second place trophies were awarded to teams in the following divisions:

Male 10 and under: Z Hoopers

Female 10 and under: First, Lightening Boltz; Second, Lady Dunkers

Male 11-12: First, Chindits; Second, All Stars

Male 13-14: First, Shake and Bake; Second, Goldi Locks and the Three Bears

Female 13-14: First, Hot Shots; Second, Dauntless

Male 15-16: In a tie breaker, First, Hoop Breakers; Second Two and a Half men

Female 15-16: First, UP Disperse

Female 15-18: In a tie breaker, First, Four Amigas; Second, UP Disperse

Male 17-18: First, Rapid River; Second, Gak Ballers

Male 19-34: First, Frei Chevy; Second, 906

Male 35 Plus: First, Superior Health &Wellness; Second, Old Ball Slappers

Light in some age groups, organizers are hopeful going into their third year they will be able to beef up some of those categories. Competition is always good and there were some amazing games played Saturday.

Mark your calendars for Aug. 4, 2018. Plans are in the works to add some special events to take place on the courts as the earlier brackets finish.
