Leo Duane Lawrence Leo Duane Lawrence MANISTIQUE - Leo Duane Lawrence, 80, of Manistique, Mich., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Mich.

He was born July 6, 1937, in Newberry, Mich., the son of Leo J. and Nettie Mae (Burns) Lawrence and was raised in Germfask.

On Feb. 13, 1960, he married the former Kay M. Cote at St. Therese Catholic Church in Germfask. They made their home and raised their family in Germfask, Mich. and have also lived in Manistique over the years.

Duane worked as a Great Lake Sailor, at Shay’s Birdseye Veneer Company, at the Seney National Wildlife Refuge, and lastly at the Schoolcraft County Road Commission/ Seney Garage.

He was a member of the Germfask Lions Club, and also the Elks, Moose, and Eagles Clubs in Manistique. He was a 4-H leader while living in Germfask and served as a Hiawatha Township Volunteer Fireman while living in Manistique. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and making building improvements. He especially enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle (having taken a trip to Sturgis) and also socializing with family and friends.

Duane is survived by his wife, Kay M. Lawrence of Manistique; sons, Donald Lawrence of Germfask, Robert (Shannon) Lawrence of Longmont, Colo. and William (Roxanne) Lawrence of Escanaba, Mich.; grandchildren, Rocquel, Whitney, Kaleia,

Taleise, Josiah, Michelle, and Laura; great-grandchildren, Halle, Sophie, Emery, and Everly; along with nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Alvina Vanatta.

Visitation will be held from 10- 11 a,m, Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Germfask Christian Fellowship Church in Germfask. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Dianne Bowler officiating. Refreshments and a gathering for family and friends will follow at the Germfask Community Building.

Burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery at Germfask.
