The concert, presented by Lake Effect Arts, will take place at the Manistique High School auditorium.

The concert, “In the Good Ole Summertime!” will begin at 3 p.m.

A highlight of the event will be soloist performances by a former Manistique resident and a recent high school graduate.

No stranger to the stage, Lauren Smith, who graduated for Manistique High School with the Class of 2017 has participated in the MAS drama program for nine years, Glee Clu for six years and the Missoula children’s Theatre which performs in Manistique in July for 11 years. After directing the elementary dram program for three years, she hopes to continue pursuing music and theatre when she attends Western Michigan University in the fall and throughout her life.

She will perform Princess from “A Man of No Importance”, Shy form “Once Upon a Mattress, and Somewhere That’s Green from “Little Shop of Horrors”.

She will be accompanied by Ginger Stark.

Also taking center stage Sunday will be former Manistique native, Chris LaCroix. LaCroix holds a bachelor of music from Alma College and a master of arts in music theatre from New York University, where he also spent post-grad study in vocal pedagogy.

He has performed in numerous shows in New York City, including world premiere opera and music theatre pieces, which also included touring the country as the butler in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”

Now living in Ann Arbor, Mich., LaCroix is thankful for the opportunity to return to the Upper Peninsula to perform for his favorite crowd.

Selections will include songs from Disney Films. The first performance will be a duet with Lauen Smith singing Lava from “Lava” by James Ford Murphy. The selections to follow will include Go the Distance from “Hercules” by Alan Menken and David Zippel and Out There from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” by Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

He will be accompanied by Maurita Holland.

The Community Chorus began in the spring of 2013 under the direction of Jim Russey.

The number of participants has continued to grow each year, and each concert is unique. There are more than 60 singers currently participating in the group.

The concert is free. Donations will be accepted at the door and help to defray the cost.
