News From MAS

It might be August but it’s not too late! If you have a three or four year old child and are interested in enrolling them in a quality preschool program, contact Emerald Elementary for information on what we have to offer. If you have a child who will be five years old by Sept. 1 and is ready to start kindergarten, please come in and register if you have not already done so. It is important for our planning process to have accurate information on enrollment to begin the school year. If you have questions about the preschool or kindergarten programs please call the Emerald Elementary Office at (906) 341-4332. As the excitement of the new school year continues to grow over the next few weeks students will be anxious to get to see their classrooms and meet their teachers. To meet that need we have scheduled our school open houses for Aug. 31. The Middle/ High School Open House will be held from 5-6 p.m. followed by a home JV Football game at 6:30. Mr. Shiner will be reviewing the new transportation procedures in the auditorium at 5p.m. and again at 5:30. The Open House at Emerald Elementary will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the gym with a presentation by Mrs. Boddy on the new drop off and pick up procedures that will be implemented at Emerald. That information will be repeated at 5:45. Teachers will be available in their classrooms from 5:30-6:30. With the transportation procedures changing at both Emerald Elementary and the Middle/High School this year it is extremely important that all students and parents are educated on the changes. In summary, students riding the bus to and from the Middle/High School will be loading and unloading on Maple Street (M94). There will be no parent pick up on Maple Street (M94) before or after school. Parents and Schoolcraft County Transit will be expected to use the school parking lot pulling through along the sidewalk entering on Main and exiting on Cedar. At Emerald Elementary, bus loading and unloading will take place in the newly reconfigured parking lot. Busses will enter from Cattaragus and exit on Oak. The new driveway and parking lot will be closed to all car traffic from 7:45-8:30 a.m. daily. Parents who transport their children will drop them off at what was formerly “bus row” near the gym doors on Cattaragus. All students must be dropped off at the curb and cars will be expected to pull up as far as possible to keep traffic moving. All of these transportation changes will create a process that is much safer for our students. Students are not to report to school more than 25 minutes before the start of the school day. That means students at the Middle/High School should not report to school before 7:50 a.m. for an 8:15 start time. Middle/High School students who report prior to the 8:05 warning bell have access to breakfast in the cafeteria and will be held in the first floor hallway until 8:05. Students at Emerald Elementary should not report to school before 8 a.m. for an 8:25 start time. Students who arrive at school prior to the 8:10 warning bell will report directly to the playground where there will be adult supervision. At 8:10 students will enter the building with the option of reporting to breakfast in the cafeteria or directly to their classrooms. During times of inclement weather students will be held in the gym commons area from 8-8:10. As always if you have any questions please call the school at (906) 341-4300.
