Missing woman found safe, suspect arrested

MANISTIQUE - A woman who had been missing since July 9 has been found safe. The man who reportedly had been last seen with her has been taken into custody.  

According to the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post LeeAnn Marie Wilmoth, 28, and Eric Scott Ruska, 37, were last heard from July 9, when they were believed to be in the Chicago Lake area in Delta County.

At approximately 4:25 a.m. this morning, Ruska and Wilmoth were located at the Shell Gas Station in the city of Munising, Alger County. Upon observing Ruska’s vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pick-up truck, MSP troopers approached and made contact with Ruska and Wilmoth. 

Troopers then determined that Wilmoth was being held against her will. Ruska was then placed under arrest and is currently being held and interviewed by Michigan State Police detectives. Wilmoth was transported to U.P. Health Systems in Marquette for evaluation where she remains at this time. The investigation is continuing at this time.

The Michigan State Police would like to thank the public and numerous businesses who provided tip information and assistance and the numerous agencies and resources who assisted with this search and investigation including: U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, U.S. Park Service Law Enforcement, Alger County Sheriff’ Office, Munising City Police Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division, Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, and the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center. Additional Michigan State Police assets deployed during this search and investigation were the MSP Aviation Section, Marine Services Section, Canine Section, and Eighth District Hometown Security Team.
