Vivian Blanchard Vivian Blanchard GOULD CITY, Mich. – Vivian Blanchard, 95, of Gould City, Mich., passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Gould City, the daughter of Thomas and Ida (Foreman) Hewitt and attended school in Gould City. She was a graduate of the Gould City High School with the Class of 1939.

On Oct. 28, 1939, the former Vivian Hewitt married Edmund W. Blanchard in Gould City. They made their home and raised their family there. Edmund preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1999.

Vivian served as the postmaster at the post office in Gould City for many years.

She was a member of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Curtis, Mich. and was a charter member of the Engadine V.F.W. Post No. 8372 Auxiliary. She loved taking a trip to the casino, watching the Detroit Tigers, and being with her family. She was proud of her Scottish ancestry and was a charter member of the Newton Township Historical Society.

Vivian is survived by her daughter, Eirnella (James) O‘Neil of Gould City; sons, Thomas (Genevieve) Blanchard of McMillan, Mich., Edmund “John” (Marsha) Blanchard of Gould City, Gerry Blanchard of Gould City, and Roderick “Rod” (Carol) Blanchard of Allen Park, Mich.; grandchildren, Thomas (Maureen) Blanchard, Gregory (Carrie) Blanchard, Jennifer (Tim) Bryer, Jeanette (Tom) Storms, Brooke (Toufic) Tabshouri, Abby Blanchard, Anna Blanchard, Leah Blanchard, Andrew Blanchard, and Megan Blanchard; great grandchildren, Robert, Russell, Grace, Elsa, Benjamin, Sarah, David, Kristopher, Joseph, Andrew, Tyler, Elizabeth, and Jonathan; along with her great-great grandchildren, Rory, Quinn, Delaney, Nellie, Gavin, Summer, and Greyson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Zelma Strom.

Visitation will be held from 10- 11 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2017, at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in Curtis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m., at the church, with Father Timothy Hruska officiating.

The Rite of Committal will be held in the Newton Township Cemetery at Gould City followed by a luncheon at the Newton Township Hall.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Newton Township Historical Society.
