2014 season opens Friday

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Emeralds’ varsity squad will kick off their 2014 season at home when they host the Negaunee Miners Friday. In the traditional season-open battle, the Emeralds will look to gain control of the Oscar Wassberg Trophy. The Emeralds’ last rights to the trophy came in a 24-16 win over Negaunee in their 2007 season.

In his 25th season as head coach, Todd Kangas will be at the helm of the varsity program. Assisting Kangas this season will be Ed Marietti and Tom Tereshinski.

In a shared program with Big Bay de Noc, 22 athletes are rostered this season.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at the A.F. Hall Stadium on the Ron Rubick Memorial Field.
