Annual car show returns Saturday

Kicks off Friday with a ‘night cruise’, showing

MANISTIQUE – The sound of revving engines is in the not-sodistant future, as this Labor Day weekend marshals in the annual Manistique Merchant’s Car Show in downtown Manistique.

The event is open to the public and kicks off with a “Friday Night Cruise” taking off from Lakeshore Shell at 6 p.m. and traveling through downtown. Participants in the cruise are welcomed to take part in the sixth annual Kewadin Car Show, with registration from 2-7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, festivities begin at 8 a.m., with registration at Floyd’s Family Restaurant. The actual car show opens to the public at 10 a.m. and will run until 4 p.m.

Dash plaques and Kewadin Casino packages will be awarded to the first 180 registrants of the car show, and trophies for “Merchant’s Best of Show”, “Mayor’s Choice” and more will be awarded. Cash prizes are also awarded to each category’s first place winner.

In addition to admiring the numerous vehicles, attendees will also have a chance to visit a craft show, held in Triangle Park. Booths are available for $15, with booth proceeds going to the Schoolcraft County DARE program. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A kid’s tractor pull will take off at 1 p.m., with registration at noon.

Also included in the day’s activities are a car “blow up” contest, an Elk’s chicken barbecue, and the Manistique Snowmobile Show.
