MVAA schedules Veterans Expo in Marquette

LANSING – MVAA is hosting a free Veterans Expo Aug. 8-9, at the Superior Dome in Marquette. Veterans and their families can speak with accredited service officers about federal benefits and state programs available to them, learn about local programs and resources and connect with other veterans from the area.

“Many Michigan veterans are unaware of the benefits and resources available to them, but the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency is working to change that,” said MVAA Senior Policy Advisor Jason Allen. “Whether you took off your uniform 50 years ago, five years ago or five months ago, you owe it to yourself to find out about the benefits you have earned and apply for them.”

Event hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. “Hiring Our Heroes” will also host a job fair Saturday as part of the Expo.

‘We look at this as a one stop shop for jobs, benefits and other opportunities for veterans,” Allen said. “Our hope is to make it possible for veterans to quickly and easily navigate the many services and benefits available to them.”

MVAA is hosting the Expo in partnership with the United States Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Veteran Expos will also be held in Grand Rapids and Detroit. Visit events.mphi.org/ vetexpo to register in advance.
