Cloverland Electric warns of area phone scam

DAFTER – Cloverland Electric warns members to be aware of a recent phone scam that names the utility.

The co-op was contacted on July 24 from business owners on Mackinac Island as well as other members in the service area who had received bogus calls from a caller demanding payment only using a Green Dot money card for electricity bills and threatens the disconnection of service. The caller is falsely stating that he is from Cloverland Electric Cooperative and is asking to speak with the business owner or manager to make payment arrangements. These calls are coming from an (800) 859-1928 number which has also been used in Kentucky with the same electric payment scam.

Members are encouraged to call the cooperative at (800) 562-4953 for verification if there are ever any questions.
