Arts center to host 3-D star class

MANISTIQUE – Lake Effect Arts of Manistique will offer a class in making paper, decorated 3-D stars Aug. 2. The class, taught by Penny Nantell of Newberry, will be held in the hall at Presbyterian Church of the Redeemer in Manistique from 1- 3p.m.

Cost for the class is $40 for Lake Effect members and $45 for non-members. For this fee, each participant will have time to make and decorate two 3-D paper stars. They will receive a star pattern, waterproof Micron pen, and learn to do seven to eight patterns that can later be used to continue creating stars or any other item.

Nantell began creating decorative patterns a couple years ago, and though she says she has been “into art” since she was a little girl, she describes herself as,

“pretty much self-taught”.

She has been teaching at the Erickson Center in Curtis, the Old

Bank in

Newberry, and out of her home. In addition, her work is displayed at The Erickson

Center, Island Books and Crafts in Sault

Ste. Marie, and at the Dancing Crane in Brimley.

Open to adults, the final date to register for this class is July 28. If interested, visit: lakeeffectarts.org/classes/default.html.

For questions, contact Mindy Asp (906) 450-5777 or Stephanie Reese (906) 283- 1001. Registration may be done through PayPal or by printing out the registration form on the Lake Effect website and mailing it with check to Stephanie Reese, 3259W Michigan Shores Road, Gulliver, MI 49840.
