Registration now open for meth and opioid summit in Marquette

WASHINGTON – The Upper Peninsula office of Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and several federal, state and local agencies are cosponsoring the “Meth and Opioid Drug Education Summit” Sept. 16, at Northern Michigan University in the Explorer Rooms in the University Center.

Representatives from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Forest Service, the National Guard Midwest Counterdrug Training Center, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Marquette Women’s Center, and other state and federal agencies will discuss drug-related topics during the daylong conference.

The drug education summit is cosponsored by Northern Michigan University Public Safety Institute, Great Lakes Recovery Centers, NorthCare Network, Michigan State Police, Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team, Chocolay Township Police Department, Marquette County Health Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette County Coalition for Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention, Forsyth Township Police Department, City of Marquette Police Department, Marquette County Courts, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Registration is required and is now being accepted for this all-day, limited capacity event. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register early. The non-refundable registration fee of $30 includes a continental breakfast and lunch.

Through NorthCare Network, the summit has been approved to offer Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professional credits, Social Work and Nursing continuing education units. Northern Michigan University’s Public Safety Institute is offering Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards. Marquette General Hospital’s School of Emergency Medical Technology’s request to the State of Michigan to approve the drug summit for EMS CEs is pending.
