He was born March 20, 1955, in Manistique, the son of Jack B. and Arlean E. (Dixon) Messer. He grew up in Gulliver, Mich., and graduated from Manistique High School with the class of 1973.
Barry proudly served our country in the United States Air Force from 1973-1977, obtaining the rank of sergeant. Following his discharge from the military, he continued his education at Michigan Technological University.
For many years he worked for Jack’s Fresh Market in Manistique. Barry enjoyed people and was loved by all.
Barry was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 83 of Manistique.
He is survived by his siblings, Stanley (Dawn) Messer of Escanaba, Mich., Beverly (Kevin) Miller of Wilbraham, Mass., Arthur (Sue) Messer of Gulliver, Boyd Messer of Gulliver, twin sister Barbara (Robert) McDonald of Manistique, Richard (Margrit) Messer of Kingsford, Mich., and Daniel Wilburn of Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, John B. Messer.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A veteran’s service will be held at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., with Father Ben Paris officiating.
Burial will be in Wood Cemetery in Gulliver.
