Isabelle W. Gorrie
CURTIS – Isabelle W. Gorrie, 96, of Curtis, Mich., passed away Friday, June 27, 2014, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.
She was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Andover, Mass., the daughter of Archibald and Margaret (Murray) Maclaren and graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in Andover.
On March 7, 1942, the former Isabelle White Mclaren married George D. Gorrie in Andover, Mass., and they moved to Flint, Mich., in 1949. They lived and raised their family in Flint and moved to Curtis in 1980 following George’s retirement. George preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2004.
While living in Flint, Isabelle was employed as a secretary and as an insurance adjuster at the Hale Insurance Co.
She served on the Portage Township Board of Review and wrote articles for the Newberry News from the Curtis area. She enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, sewing and playing cards.
Isabelle is survived by her daughters, Gail Gorrie of Elgin, Ill., Martha “Marti” (Terrance) Maier of Perrinton, Mich., and Priscilla “Bunny” (William) Fisher of Curtis; eight grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and her brother, Archibald Maclaren of Andover.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Maclaren.
Services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
