Relay tradition continues

MARQUETTE – A spring tradition was carried on again this year by several Manistique area residents who once again made relayed their way to Big Bay.

In its 38th year, the Big Bay Relay, sponsored by Johnsons Superior Shoes and Jimmy Johns, took place on May 17. The event, which is a tradition and challenge that begins in Marquette with five-person relay teams making the trek to Big Bay.

This year, Manistique was represented in the all male, all female and seven person junior divisions.

Taking second in the male division with a time of 2:57:00.7 was Blood, Sweat & Beers.

Their relay team was comprised of Jeff Zellar, Dan Dehanke, John Rahn, Lucian Burge and Tanner Watson.

Marga-Relay-Ville representing the ladies took fourth in a time of 4:07:02.0.

Kick’n Ashphalt took third in the junior division with their time of 3:16.33.7. Runners included Olivia Holmberg, Taylor Holmberg, Kelsey Dehanke, Brittany Zellar, Meagen Weber, Holly Blowers and Lauren Paige.

The Noquemanon Trail Network hosted this unique road running race with the funds raised going toward the Noquemanon Skijor Club and Animoosh Skijor Race promotion.
