Domestic violence golf fundraising event set

ESCANABA – “Drive Away Violence”, set for June 21, is the first of what will be an annual golf fundraiser for Tri-County Safe Harbor. The event will take place at the Escanaba Country Club.

“We’ve gotten some pre-registrations and hole sponsorships,” said Lynn Erickson, co-chair for the event. “But we have lots of room for more teams and some sponsorship holes are still open.”

Tri-county Safe Harbor provides safe housing for women and children who have experienced domestic partner violence as well as outreach advocacy for those who need guidance though the court and social service systems.

“Outreach advocacy is often the key that helps men and women in harmful situations be able to make the decisions they need,” said one outreach advocate. “Helping them know what is available to them and accompanying them, when needed, gives them the courage to take the next step.”

The golf outing will be used to help the shelter continue these services.

Four-person scramble teams are being registered, with a $60 per person fee to cover green fees, lunch and dinner. Door prizes, cash prizes, raffles and 50/50 drawings benefit the shelter.

Volunteers are still needed. Anyone interested in a registration form or volunteering can call (906) 789-9207.
