‘Maine Event - Round Two’ planned

MANISTIQUE – The Schoolcraft County Community Foundation will be selling live Maine lobsters during this year’s Fourth of July activities.

The “Maine Event- Round Two” – an annual fundraiser for the foundation – will bring in live lobsters that were swimming in the ocean on July 3, and arrive for pick-up at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manistique on July 4.

In existence since 1994, the foundation will use proceeds from the event to increase the amount of endowed funds that serve as the principal for grant-making in Schoolcraft County. Earnings from the endowment funds are used to sponsor grants to local organizations and individuals.

The most recent grant recipients included Manistique Area Schools band program, Little League, Emerald Elementary Science Court, Manistique Robotics Team, Special Olympics, Gulliver Historical Society and Environmental Education Lab.

The community foundation awards grants twice a year, in May and November. Deadlines for applications are March 31 and Sept. 30.

Lobsters’ live weight will be between 1.35 and 1.37 pounds and are $20 each. Order deadline is June 30.

Payment must be made in advance and can be mailed to Schoolcraft County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 452, Manistique, MI 49854. Orders can also be emailed to sccommunityfoundation@gmail.com. An order form appears on this page.
