MANISTIQUE – “Finally.” That was the word from the Manistique Emeralds’ golf coach Deb Taylor when her team received the green light to hit the links at the Indian Lake Golf Course and Country Club for their first match of the season. One typically played in mid-April.

“We have 23 boys and six girls this year and it sure was nice to finally get the opportunity to get them on the course Monday,” said Taylor.

Limited to the front nine at Indian Lake, the Emerald boys and girls took full advantage of their home course to come out on top in the triangular event.

Off to a slow start, the boys rallied behind a low card 43 from DK Boyd to finish with a team score of 186 to beat out Menominee and Westwood who each finished with 189.

Westwood’s Connor Mason medaled in the match with a low card 40.

In addition to Boyd, Alex Anderson finished with a 44, Zach Powers 49 and freshman Louis Berry III a 50.

Taylor said her boys’ team has talent and expects her top five golfers to be competitive this year.

The girls’ number one (Hailey Hoholik) and number two (Rachel Ryan) led the Emerald girls to a victory with scores of 54 and 57 respectively.

Behind Hoholik’s low score, Manistique won the match with a team score of 254, followed by Menominee 258 and Westwood 266.
