Recently, Undersheriff Dixson from the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department contacted Mr. Wagner, CTE Automotive and eighth grade explorations teacher, to see if our students wanted to do some “light repairs” to the department vehicles.

This collaboration could save the county money, allow students to affect real repairs on real vehicles, and build positive relationships between our students and local law enforcement.

Key technicians on the car were Cody Taylor and Eric Troyer. The vehicle left our “shop” with a new axle, new rear axle bearings and seals, and new rear brakes! The students did an excellent job, and even washed the car. Huge “thank you” to Undersheriff Dixson, Renze Ford, NAPA, and Auto Value for their help; and, to the students!

In addition to Erik Troyer’s first place finish at regional and state Skills USA, Cody Taylor placed third in brakes regional competition. Congratulations to these junior students!

As part of MAS’ on-going industry and business collaboration, all eighth grade students from Manistique Middle School had the opportunity to tour Carmeuse Lime and Stone, and Graymont Western Lime facilities in Schoolcraft County on May 1. The purpose of the hour long tours of each facility was to expose the students to the different types of industry in our community.

A special thanks to Paul Stoll, John Abbitt, and the employees of both Carmeuse and Graymont for taking the time to meet with our students.
