In March, preschoolers at St. Francis de Sales School celebrated “Read Across America” month. Children enjoyed special activities with books, such as baking a “Thundercake”, face painting as their favorite storybook animals, pretending to be astronauts in a rocket ship, and mixing magic ice cream potions. At home the children, with their parents, wrote down titles of books that were read at home on tickets. These tickets were used to see how many books were read during the month. The four year olds read a total of 686 books during the month, both at home and in class. Certificates and prizes were earned by all of the children and, at the end of the month, the children went on a trip to Pizza Hut for lunch. Pictured with their prizes are the three children who read the most books, left to right: Matthew Clark (80 books), Caleb Stempki (110 books), and Bella LaVigne (90 books).
