UP sportswriters name selections

The Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association recently announced their selections for the boys’ 2013-14 basketball season.

In Class D, Joey Duncan of Cedarville was selected as Player of the Year.

Coach of the Year honors went to Adam Mercier of North Central.

Making the First Team cut were Dan Stenback

Cedarville, 12; Ben Stasewich of Munising, 11; Rob Granquist of North Central, 11; Shane Beaune of Brimley, 11; and Keenan Lampinen

Carney-Nadeau, 12.

Second Team selections included Lee Graff

Cedarville, 11; Tyler Roose of LL-HubbellJ, 11; Jake Pearson of Rapid River, 12; Cole Potvin of Big Bay de Noc, 12; Ben Zielinski

Bessemer, 12; Dionte Blahnik of Carney-Nadeau, 12; Jason Whitens of North Central, 9; and Trevor Ekberg of North Central, 12.

For Class A-B-C, Player of the Year honor was awarded to Tyler Jandron a senior from Negaunee.


Tyler Kangas Tyler Kangas Class A-B-C Coach of the Year was Mike O’Donnell of Negaunee.

First Team selections for Class A-B-C included Gage Kreski of St. Ignace, 10; Alex Almquist of Hancock, 12; Alex Briones of Ishpeming, 12; Andrew Nyquist of Marquette, 12; and Eric Lori of Negaunee, 12.

Players making Second Team selection for Class A-B-C included: Larry Burnette III of Marquette, 12; Jimmy Veker of L’Anse, 12; Trent Keteri of Houghton, 12; Paul Torola of Calumet, 12; Terrance Fuller of Sault High, 11; Jacob Di- Giorgio of Ironwood, 11; Owen DeVooght of Gwinn, 12; Daniel Harrington of Kingsford, 11; Justin Nyquist of Gwinn, 12; and Jared Hunter of Gladstone, 12.

Class A-B-C Special Mention selections were awarded to; Zach Caudell, Iron Mountain; Devon Harris, Menominee; Tyler Kangas, Manistique; Ryan LaBerge, L’Anse; Samuel Molnar, Escanaba; Adam Newby, West Iron County; John Paramski, Newberry; Bobby Zhulkie, Ishpeming; Brad Brow, Marquette.
