Demers takes ‘Top Gun’ honors

MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Rifle and Pistol Club recently held its annual .22 Pistol League Championship.

The league championship was won by the team of Russ Johnson, Nick LaFave, Tom Bronz and Jim LaFave.

Second in team competition was Bill Larson, Ed Hines, Bob Hewitt and Bill Fries. The team of Joan Duncan, Frank Hentschell, Jake Verbunker and Kevin Demers finished third.

The “Top Gun” trophy in the league was awarded to Kevin Demers. Demers also won “Top Gun” honors in the center fire league.

Other championship results were as follows:

Masters Division: first place, Mark Knoebel; second place, Dana Demers; third place, Kevin Demers; fourth place, Ryan Weber.

Expert Division: first place, Nick LaFave; second place, Bob Hewitt; third place, Mike Glass; fourth place, Jake Verbunker.

Sharpshooter Division: first place, Russ Johnson; second place, Tom Bronz; third place, Joan Duncan; fourth place, Frank Hentschell.

This year’s award for most improved shooter went to Justin Blandford

Center Fire League Championship: first place, Jim LaFave; second place, Justin Blandford; third place, Dana Demers, fourth place, Frank Hentschell.

League membership is not required to shoot. The club offers ranges for shotguns, pistols, rifles and archery, and offers beginners a safe shooting experience.

The Manistique Rifle and Pistol Club is located nine miles north of Manistique on Highway M-94.

The club is open year-round.
