Lois E. Nylander

MANISTIQUE – Lois E. Nylander, 83, of 162 N. Cedar St., Manistique, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, at Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique where she had resided for the past few days.

She was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Manistique, the daughter of Edwin and Hildur (Peterson) Nylander and attended Manistique area schools. She was a graduate of Manistique High School with the Class of 1949.

Over the years, Lois was employed as a dental assistant and secretary at the dental offices of Dr. Harold Sell, Dr. Robert Hawn and Dr. Leland Parks in Manistique. Following her retirement, she worked as a clerk at the People’s Store.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Manistique and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the ELCW and the Priscilla Circle. Lois loved to socialize and go out for a good meal when she could. She also enjoyed doing ceramics.

Lois is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Macklem of Manistique; nephews, James (Linda) Macklem, Mike Macklem, Gary (Roni) Macklem and John Dunn; niece, Debra (Al) Middleton; along with two great nephews; and 14 greatgreat nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Nylander and Leone Dunn; and her nephew, Edward Dunn.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral home, with Reverend David Hueter officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery at Manistique.
