Handbell ensemble to play at Zion Lutheran

MANISTIQUE – The Alleluia Ringers of Concordia University Wisconsin, one of the nation’s premier university handbell ensembles, is coming to the Manistique. The group will perform a concert on May 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.

The group consists of 14 undergraduate ringers that ring 152 handbell and handchimes. This is the 28th year of music making under the direction of Dr. John Behnke, professor of Music at Concordia University Wisconsin.

Over the past 28 years, the group has played numerous times with the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus under conductors Doc Severinsen, Bill Conti, and Jeff Tyzik. They have made concert tours to Norway, Germany and France, Latvia, and concertized throughout the U.S.

The concert includes visually and aurally elements. Their music will consist of classical transcriptions, arrangements of wellknown hymns and spirituals, and original music for handbells.
