COOKS – Seven was a lucky number for the Lady Bears Monday night. With three players scoring seven points each, Big Bay defeated Grand Marais in round one of district action in Cooks.

With just two points separating the two (16-14) at the half, Coach Ryan Knoph got a 14-point effort from his girls in the third that put the game out of reach.

Trailing 30-18, Grand Marais’ Elizabeth Scaife scored eight of her game high 16 points in the final quarter, but couldn’t push her team over the top.

Dominating the boards, Big Bay got several looks at the basket, but finished just 15-of-77 from the floor in the winning effort.

With the win, Big Bay took on the Rapid River Rockets in District 125 semifinals in Rapid River (0- 17) Wednesday after press time. Tipoff was set for 8 p.m.

The winner will advance to the district finals against the winner of Superior Central (17-1) and Munising (13-5) Friday in Rapid River.
