William Ward

William Ward William Ward NORWAY – William Ward, 78, of Norway, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at ManorCare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsford, Mich.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1935, in Manistique, the son of the late William and Eleanor (Scott) Ward.

William graduated from Cooks High School in 1954.

He married Mary Louise Plucker on Feb. 22, 1955, in St. John’s Church in Garden, Mich. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this year.

Bill was a member of the Operating Engineers Union No. 324 for 54 years. He served on two ambulance crews, Fairbanks and Garden Tri Star for 19 years.

His first big job was working on building the Mackinaw Bridge.

Bill enjoyed volunteering at the Big Bay de Noc School and going to his granddaughter’s softball and soccer games, going to the casino and watching the Detroit Tigers and Green Bay Packers.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary Lou; son Mark Ward of Garden; daughter Nicole (Darrell) Hosking of Norway; grandchildren Ashley (Brad) Landis of Escanaba, Mich., Heather Ward of Rhinelander, Wis., Katlyn, Taylor and Jacob Hosking of Norway; great-grandson Aiden Ward; brothers and sisters DeAnna (Morgan) Tatrow of Garden, Montgomery Ward of Escanaba, Kathy LaMoine of Garden, Thomas (Anna) LaButte of Garden, Amber (Gary) Hill of Ithaca, Mich., Sonia Ward of Burton, Mich.,

Peter (Faye) Ward of Savannah, Tenn., Linda (Daniel) Cota of Green Bay, Wis., and Mary Lynn (Bob) LaLonde of Palm Bay, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Norma Lisa Holub, Crystal Hardwick, and Faye Allen; and his brother, Bernie Barney.

Family will greet friends on Saturday, March 1 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at Garden Congregational Church in Garden.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Garden Congregational Church with Pastor Darrell Pizzala officiating.

Family request memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to Big Bay de Noc Scholarship Fund or Delta Co. or Almost Home Animal Shelter.
