“Fantastic, stellar, and top notch performance by the second and third grade students,” reports Mr. Mason, Emerald Elementary principal. Thank you to Christi Ryan for the wonderful and very organized performance of the “Cat Musical”. A special thanks to the teachers and custodians for assisting in the production on and off the stage. Turnout was great, and everyone took their “kitten” home! Kudos to the following Emerald Elementary students who took part in the Delta-Schoolcraft Drug Abuse Prevention Poster Contest: fourth grade – Katelyn Jasmin, Kyla Partain, Reese Troxler, and Salem Pettey. In the fifth grade – Jordan St. John and Ava Fleck. There will be an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on March 4, at the Escanaba Upper Elementary School Auditorium (1500 Ludington St.). Congratulations to our Emerald poster winners! To celebrate National Reading Month, Emerald Elementary will have a Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day on March 7. Starting at 1:05 p.m., students and staff will curl up with a good book of their choosing and get lost in the pages with zero distractions! Be an example – Let your child see you read whether it is a book, newspaper, cookbook, etc. Congratulations to the varsity cheer team for qualifying for the state finals! The cheerleaders were regional runners-up in earning their bid. The state finals will be held at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids onMarch 1. Good luck Emeralds! Coming on March 12 will be the Pigs vs. Punks basketball game starting at 6 p.m. This is a Class of 2016 fundraiser held in the MS/HS gym. The annual Glee Club performances are scheduled for March 15 and 16. Plan now to attend! The senior class play will be performed in the MS/HS Auditorium on March 25, and again on March 27. New senior play coaches are Jackie Burns and Melissa Schwartz. Also on March 25: High School Orientation for parents of current eighth grade students beginning at 6 p.m. in the MS/HS community room. This is a very important meeting as Mr. Shiner, principal, and Mr. Rochon, guidance, will explain transition from middle to high school, ACT checklist, MET brochure, scheduling, credit recovery and communication/collaboration. The high school drama spring production will be “Willy Wonka”. Performances will be held on May 8-10 at 7 p.m. each night in the MS/HS auditorium. New high school drama coach is Ms. Juip, second grade teacher at Emerald Elementary. Parents are reminded of spring break, March 31 – April 4. Classes resume on April 7. Other Dates: March 10 – Athletic Booster Club meeting at 6 p.m. in the community room March 17 – Regular monthly school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the community room
