Wrestlers’ journey end at regionals

ROGERS CITY, Mich. – Competing at the 2014 Individual Finals for two Emerald wrestlers wasn’t in the cards this season following competition at regionals in Rogers City.

Austin Miller wrestling at 125 qualified for competition after taking fourth place at the District Tournament in Newberry.

Miller lost his first match against Logan Eaves from Hesperia Community High School moving him to the loser’s bracket.

He won his second match against Tony Au Sable High School wrestler Tony Everly.

Miller was knocked off in the third round, when he met Elliott Vandreumel from Pine River Area High School. Vandreumel finished the day taking fourth.

Miller, a senior, finished the regular season with a 35-10 record.

Emerald junior Michael Brock cut his quest in just two rounds.

Wrestling at 189, Brock started the event with a loss against Carl Morgan from Hart High School.

In his second match up he met James Christiansen, a senior from Iron Mountain, with Christiansen advancing.

Brock ended the season with a record of 6-8.

Christiansen took the fourth place spot to advance to finals.

Finals will take place the weekend of Feb. 27 - March 1 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The grand march is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. with wrestling to begin at 2 p.m. on Feb. 27.
