SnoFest returns, more offered

Cardboard races, 5K among Saturday fun

MANISTIQUE – It’s time again for the city of Manistique Recreation Department’s annual “SnoFest”.

This year, there are plenty of activities for outdoor enthusiasts and the fun starts at 8 a.m.

The annual Walk for Warmth Fundraiser kicks off with coffee and donuts, along with registration, at 8 a.m. at the Manistique Senior Citizen Center. The center is located at 101 Main St. The walk will start from the center at 9 a.m.

The Frosty 5K Run/Walk will take off at 10 a.m. Late registrations will be taken starting at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Little Bear West Arena. A copy of the registration form can be found this week’s edition of the Pioneer Tribune, below. Forms can be requested from the City of Manistique Recreation Director Bill Pohlman at manistiquerecreation@live.com or picked up at City Hall at 300 N. Maple St.

The Little Jiggers Kids Fishing Derby will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for the derby begins at 9 a.m. at Central Park.

Pre-drilled holes with minnows provided are $5 per hole. There is a limit of three holes. Prizes and more are planned.

Also at 9 a.m. is registration for the first-ever Cardboard Classic Sled Race. Judging for the race will take place at 1:30 p.m., with the race beginning at 2 p.m. at the Central Park sledding hill.

Activities will also be going on at Little Bear West Arena in the afternoon and evening.

A Rock n Roll Skate will take place from 6-9 p.m. The cost for participation is $5.
