Manistique hockey to host Bantam ‘B’ championship


The Manistique bantam team, sponsored by State Savings Bank, will participate in the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association District 8 Bantam “B” District Championship games scheduled at Little Bear West Arena this weekend. Their first game is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. against Escanaba. Team members include goalies Nick Lund and Riley Pillon in front. Photo courtesy Portraits Plus MANISTIQUE – The Manistique Hockey Association will be hosting the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association District 8 Bantam “B” District Championship games this weekend at Little Bear Arena.

A full slate of hockey action is set to begin at 3 p.m. Friday when Manistique and Escanaba take to the ice.

At 4:30 p.m., Copper Country will face Dickenson Area Hockey Association.

Keweenaw Bay will meet Marquette at 6 p.m. and Iron River will take on Calumet at 7:30 p.m. for the nightcap.

Teams will be back on the ice early Saturday morning when Manistique and Copper Country start the busy schedule at 8.a.m.

The tournament will be played in round robin style, with each team playing each other in their respective divisions.

Sunday morning, the first place finisher in the American Division will meet the second place finisher in the National Division at 10 a.m.

At 11:30 a.m. the National first place finisher will face the second place finisher in the American Division.

The championship game will be played at 5 p.m.

The winner at this event will advance to state playoffs in Gaylord March 14-16.
