On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Manistique seventh grade band played their first concert of the year along with special guests, the NMU Faculty-Student Brass Quintet! Both groups played very well, and the seventh grade band can be proud of their performance.

The newly-formed Manistique Band Boosters also organized a reception to honor the performers after their concert. If you are interested in supporting the band as part of the Band Boosters, contact Jeremy Connin at 341-430o, ext. 342. The group’s next meeting is Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in the Manistique High School Band Room. Everyone is welcome.

Also in band news: Five Manistique band students performed at the District Solo and Ensemble Festival in Escanaba on Saturday, Feb. 1. Two students, Coby Ryan and Chris Freeman, qualified for the State Solo and Ensemble by receiving superior ratings! The other three students, Chris Shiner, Todd Hronek, and Emily Bauman, also had fine performances and missed qualifying for the state event by only one rating! Congratulations to all for representing our school well!

Huge thank you to the Manistique Lion’s Club for their donation of tshirts for the Manistique Pep Band!

The t-shirts made their debut at a recent basketball game.

Fifth grade students took a mini field trip to the high school recently to sit in on fifth/sixth grade band class. What a great experience for all!

The Students in the Arts opening reception is set for Feb.12 from 5-7 p.m. in the Manistique School and Public Library. A two dimensional art exhibit is free and open to the public. As part of the exhibit, first year visual art student Ashley Menominee presents her “monochromatic color scheme”, and a painting by second year visual art student, Laura Zimmerman.

That same evening, Feb. 12, the Middle School Drama Club students take to the stage for their presentation of “School Daze”. There is only one performance at 7 p.m. in the auditorium as part of Students in the Arts. Admission is $4.
