MANISTIQUE -– Despite the brutal cold, wind and snow, 112 brave souls took to the frozen waters of Indian Lake last weekend to participate in the annual Indian Lake Ice Fishing Derby.

While the numbers were drastically down from previous years, Ted Hentchell of Top O’Lake Sport Shop, organizer of the 28th annual tournament, said it was an enthusiastic crowd that gathered to see how their catch measured up with the competition Sunday.

In the end, Savannah White claimed the top prize of the two-day event. White hauled in a 20-inch 3-pound walleye just before day break on Saturday to claim the top prize of $120.

Chris Snyder took the top spot in the perch category, also taking home $120 with a 12 3/4 inch perch he landed Sunday morning.

The Powell brothers Tyler and Chris won the kids’ contest. Both pulled in their winning catch at 11 a.m., as time was running out in the contest.
